Metros raise over £1000 for Children's Adventure Farm Trust

Monday, 5th October 2009

A delighted group from the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust of Millington was presented cheques in excess of £1500. The cash came from the fund-raising efforts of two local groups: the Trafford Metros Ice Hockey team and the Department of Work and Pensions Sports and Social Club. The presentation took place last Saturday, on the ice, at the Trafford Metros Ice Hockey team’s home game against Nottingham Lions.

The CAFT group was welcomed onto the ice at the end of the first period for the presentation. Paula Murray, for the Metros, hoisted a ceremonial cheque showing in excess of £1000: the proceeds of two off-season hockey games at Altrincham Ice Dome. Paul Bayliss, coach of the Metros presented a cheque for £450 on behalf of his staff Sports and Social Club. Both were very gratefully received by carer Rachel Ayres on behalf of the Adventure Farm Trust.

At the end of the game the kids came back onto the ice to present the Man Of The Match awards. Rachel Ayres spoke of how much difference money and experiences like this can make to their wok for disadvantaged and under-privileged children across the North West. Bringing groups to Metros games give another dimension to the range of activities that can be offered to the CAFT children.

A delighted Paula Murray beamed as she was surrounded by the Metros guests: “This experience is just great. It’s a privilege for us to be associated with CAFT. They and their protégés are such super people and welcome here for any game they wish. We hope to continue our association with the Adventure Farm.”
