Trafford Metros vs Bradford Bulldogs
Altrincham Ice Dome, Saturday 15th May at 5.15pm

This Saturday sees the Trafford Metros play the fourth annual charity game against the Bradford Bulldogs. It faces off at the Altrincham Ice Dome at 5.15pm, the winners to hold the Paul Fox Memorial Cup. All cash resulting from the game will go to the British Heart Foundation. Last year over £800 was raised!

The Mets hold the trophy from the two previous encounters and will be reluctant to surrender it. Paul was former netminder Aran Fox's father. He died ridiculously young four years ago. Practically all the current Mets squad played with Aran for several years and knew Paul well. Aran played at Devonshire Road for all the age groups, even playing U19s when he was only thirteen. Despite being able to skate under the crossbar he was utterly fearless between the pipes and more than held his own two age-groups above his own. At the closure of the old rink he, as did several others, moved to play at Bradford where he and Paul proved to be equally as popular with all and sundry as they had at the old rink.

There promises to be an entertaining game with a few novelty items thrown in. Please come down and enjoy a competitive and entertaining end of season event. Along with the competitive game we have the littl’uns from the Manchester Phoenix Junior Academy on the ice during the period breaks, along with competitions such as ‘Chuck A Puck’, great raffle prizes including Manchester Phoenix jerseys, a 'cut & blow-dry' from a top local salon and many more. It will be a fun day out for all.

The teams will be as follows...

TRAFFORD METROS: John Murray, Jake Nurse, Robyn Crebbin, Brian Worrall, Tom King, Max Drakeley, Andrew McKinney, Ollie Bayne, Jordan Bannon, Kevin Cassidy, Sean Day, Danny Berry, Jamie Rogerson, Alex Burgess, Ashton Jenion, Tom Revesz, Rob Finnan, Adam Summerfield (N/M), Tom McDonald (N/M)

BRADFORD BULLDOGS: Andy Brown, Rob Parker, Luke Smith, Steven Butler, Bobby Streetly, Aaron Dad, Ryan Thomlinson, Rob Whittleston, Daniel Pye, Luke Boothroyd, Callum Davies, Martyn Davies, Alex Lawson, Richard Lawson (N/M), Jonny Brown (N/M)

As you can see, Bradford are running scared so they've brought in a few ringers. Manchester Phoenix captain, and Huddersfield native, Luke Boothroyd returns for one night only to the team where he learnt his craft... the traitor! Not content with this, they've stolen a few Elite League players from the Newcastle Vipers in Daniel Pye and Richard Lawson. So, since they're playing dirty, we will as well. We've harangued Phoenix back-up netminder Adam Summerfield to moonlight for the Metros, and he'll line-up with another couple of Phoenix players in Max Drakeley and Andy McKinney, both of whom excelled on two-way contracts with the EPL team while also starring for the Metros.

This is your last chance to get a hockey fix for the season, so please come down to support a worthwhile cause on Saturday and enjoy a really good night of hockey and general frivolities. Don't forget to boo Luke Boothroyd...
