Solihull Barons 2 – Trafford Metros 7

The Metros travelled down the M6 to face the Barons to try and complete a 100% opening weekend, the metros were buoyant after their home win against the Lions the previous day I don’t think the Barons stood a chance against the Metros, and two different hat tricks were chalked up for the Metros by the same player!

The First period started with both teams taking a penalty each whilst the Metros were trying to come to terms with the new boys of the league, and to be fair to the Barons they took some breaking down so it wasn’t until the 12th minute when the barons took a penalty the Metros power play unit went to work and scored the go ahead goal, Joe Greaves combined with Max Drakeley and Jamie Rogerson to make it 1-0. Then it wasn’t till the 18 minute when Metros new boy Ciaran Long scored his first of the night with a pass from Jamie Rogerson. So the Metros went into the break 2-0.

The Second period was where the Metros took flight and notched up 5 more goals. But first the Barons notched their first of the night in the 22nd minute. The Metros were scorned by conceding so early in the period and went straight back to work and in the 27th minute Ciaran Long combined with Jamie Rogerson and Joe Greaves to make it 3-1. Five minutes later Ciaran completed a Natural Hat trick when he received a pass from Joe Greaves to make it 4-1. Then not a minute later the Metros scored their 5th through Jamie Rogerson, who combined with Max Drakeley and Simon Mills on the power play. Then it wasn’t a minute later again when the Metros tallied their 6th with an unassisted effort by Max Drakeley. Then in the 39th minute the Barons Took a bench minor for too many men and the Metros punished them yet again on the power play through Max Drakeley combining with Ciaran Long, so the Metros went into the second break 7-1 up.

The Third saw no scoring for the Metros but saw Ciaran Long complete his second hat trick of the evening when he dropped his gloves to go toe to toe with Dale Buckland, thus completing his Gordie Howe hat trick. The Barons Managed to get a second goal in the 53rd minute to make it 7-2. A Gritty and determined effort saw the Metros Complete their 100% start to the season against the league’s new boys.
