Trafford Metros 7 Nottingham Lions 2
The Metros travelled to the National Ice Centre with only 11 skaters knowing that this game would be a stern test of the character and resolve, but once again they proved the rest of the league wrong and defiantly showed they deserve their place in division 1 this year!
Metros started the game knowing this would be a tough encounter and both teams went toe to toe for the first 15 minutes of the game, until Max Drakeley broke out of the defensive zone to send a saucer pass across the slot to Jake Nurse to find the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the Metros. Then whilst the Metros were Short handed in the last minute of the period Jamie Rogerson stole the puck off a Nottingham players stick and he and Joe Greaves broke out into the Nottingham zone, Jamie found Joe with a pin point pass and Joe slotted home from an acute angle to make it 2-0 at the break.
The Metros started the second knowing they had to keep the Lions down in their own building and it didn’t take them long to register their third tally of the night, when Richard done found the back of the Lions net for his first ever Metros goal from a pass from Jamie Rogerson. The 30th minute saw Jake Nurse drop the gloves with Mr. Whyatt from the Lions who had been at Jake all night and I bet he regretted the decision to go toe to toe with Jake who dropped him in seconds!!! The Lions got a goal back before the break from Colegate which just snuck past Paul Maudsley in the Metros net. So the second ended 3-1 to the Metros.
Then it was more of the same from the Metros in the third, they just didn’t want to lose their 100% start to the season and were determined to make people stand up and take a good look at them seriously for the rest of the season, but it wasn’t till the 49th minute when the Metros broke out of their own zone through Dan Berry who found Jamie Rogerson hurtling down the wing who then in turn found Jared Dickinson in front of the Lions cage to put home the Metros 4th of the evening to make it 4-1. Nottingham hit back 30 seconds later trough Colegate again but even tough they got this goal the Metros had completely out skated out thought and totally outplayed the Lions by this point and their head were hanging low but did the Metros lay off? Not a chance in Hades! They went straight for the jugular and stung by been scored upon by the Lions they went straight back on the attack and scored in the 52nd minute from Jamie Rogerson who found the top shelf from a pass from Jake Nurse, Gordy Howe Hat Trick for Nurse! 5-2 Metros. Then later on the Period the Metros line of Jake Nurse John Murray and Ollie Bayne Combined to make it 6-2 with Ollie grabbing the goal from the low slot, and then 40 seconds later Ollie found the back of the net again from Max Drakeley and Jake Nurse to make it 7-2.
An awe inspiring performance by the Metros has once again made the rest of the league stand up and say ‘we need to watch out for these guys!’
