Sheffield Spartans 7 - Trafford Metros 3

Telford Titans 4 - Trafford Metros 2

The Metros knew that the weekends fixtures would be tough as they travelled to Sheffield on Saturday with a short bench for a 19:30 face-off and then were in action the next day in Telford with an even shorter bench!

The Metros travelled over the Pennines on Saturday night to face the Spartans with a bench of 15 knowing that they were going to face a tough examination by the Yorkshire based team, and the lads didn’t get off to the best start they were 3-0 down in 8 minutes and had lost another player to injury, Tom Revesz took a puck to the side of the head from a clearance attempt by one of the Spartans, Tom left the game with a nasty cut behind the ear and we all wish him a speedy recovery. But the Metros mounted a fight back before the break and register 2 goals before the end of the first, the first a well worked team goal when Shaun Dippnall took the puck into the Sheffield zone and then laid it off to John Murray who played a perfect ‘European Move’ pass from behind the net for Jake Nurse to slot it home from just bellow the left circle. Max Drakeley got the second marker for the Metros with a Seeing Eye wrist shot from the point which found the top shelf, the assist was credited to John Murray.

3-2 was the score into the second and unfortunately that was as close as the Metros got to the Spartans. The Metros only conceded one in the second but the lads started to feel the short bench in the third when they conceded another three goals but they registered a third through Shaun Dippnall and the assist to Jake Nurse. The Game finished 7-3 but when the Metros had the possession of the puck they threatened all the time but just couldn’t get it in the net.

The Next day the Metros went down the M6 to face their rivals the Telford Titans with only 12 players after losing 2 players to injury the night before and a couple of players who had other commitments. The lad were determined to get their game back on track but once again the depth of their squad was the problem and once again Telford’s keeper brought his A game. The Metros went one down in the 6th minute but equalised 2 minutes later through John Murray with assists going to Jake Nurse and Max Drakeley. But before the period was out Telford notched up two more to make it 3-1 at the break to Telford.

The Second period saw no scoring for either team, it wasn’t till deep into the third in the 55th minute when Telford made it 4-1 but the Metros brought it back to a two goal deficit 2 minutes later through Jake Nurse with the assists this time going to John Murray and Max Drakeley. The Metros tried their best and once again outshot the opposition but couldn’t get it in the net, with a bit more depth I think it would have been a different story. Next time out the Metros take on their arch rivals the Blackburn Hawks and the Metros are determined to take down the Hawks.
