"Two games away from a Silver Medal drives us," says Thompson

Friday, 18th April 2008

Team GB skate onto the ice on Friday evening knowing that a win against Holland could set up a Silver Medal game with Kazakhstan on Saturday afternoon. If GB are successful in winning both of their remaining games and hosts Austria beat Kazakhstan and Poland then the Silver medal will be theirs.

"That's what's driving us." says Coach Paul Thompson. "We said at the start of these championships that our two opening games were going to be the toughest, that well deserved point against Poland could turn out to be very useful.

"We have watched the Dutch side in games and training, they have an incredible goalie who has kept them in games so far this tournament, individually they are skilled. The Dutch cheat a lot, by that I mean they are looking to risks and gamble going forward. Our defence will have to have their heads on swivels on Friday.

"I feel we are getting better as the championships go on, we are progressing. This time last year we were facing a relegation game with Rumania, this year we are looking at the chance of a medal finish, the guys deserve credit and praise for the way they have come on. Everyone is excited at the prospect of playing in these two huge games."
