Phoenix community spirit cocktail

Friday, 16th March 2012

The evening of March 14th saw Manchester Phoenix once again head out into the community with a business mixer held at the Hale Grill in conjunction with the Altrincham & Sale Chamber of Commerce.

Neil Morris, Tony Hand, Steve Fone, Martin Cingel and the Manchester Menace were guests of honour and Neil Morris gave a presentation to local business leaders about ice hockey, the history of hockey in Manchester, the trials and tribulations of Manchester Phoenix and the previous work done by the Community Sports Foundation and their hopes and aspirations for the future.

Following the presentation , Tony Hand was introduced to the audience as not only our Head Coach and the greatest British player ever, but also the newly appointed GB Coach & was the centre of much attention, along with Steve Fone and Martin Cingel, networking with guests and generally mingling with the company.

Neil, Tony and the players got a great reaction from the assembled throng, with great interest generated in the team and the Community Sports Foundation, both being praised for their impact in the local area.

Despite the efforts of Tony and the players, the highlight of the evening had to be the face off between the Manchester Menace and Kobe the Cow, the Hale Grill mascot, in a cocktail showdown.

After having a quick demonstration on how to make a perfect Mojito, the two combatants took up the challenge to better their teacher with the winner being chosen by a member of the Hale Grill staff. Kobe the Cow was given the verdict, despite the Menace running interference and his Tom Cruise impression. Rumour has it that the Menace may be back to try and take the crown... who knows!

The night was fun, friendly and light hearted and an excellent opportunity to showcase the Community Sports Foundation and the Club to potential sponsors and fans. Everyone involved hopes those attending got as much out of the event as the Phoenix representatives . The club would like to thank the Hale Grill for their hospitality and the Altrincham and Sale Chamber of Commerce for inviting Manchester Phoenix to participate in the event.
