On the road - the scottish double-header

Thursday, 13th January 2011

The Manchester Phoenix Tour Bus took to the road again this past weekend for a Scotland double-header.  The weather for the trip was horrendous, with driving rain, howling winds and flooding. The travelling pastime of the weekend was "over-turned lorry spotting" -  we spotted a total of sixteen!

The trip over the Forth Bridge to watch Fife Flyers take on Hull Stingrays was more than a little hairy but we made it. When we arrived we were told that the Hull bus had been stuck on the A1, thereby delaying the face-off by an hour. This meant it would be touch and go as to whether we would get back to the station in time for the last train back to Edinburgh. However, we decided to chance it!

This was our first visit to Fife and a thoroughly good time was had by all. Fife were 3-0 ahead at the end of the first but by the second Hull had finally found their legs and  really made a match of it, leading to a final score of Fife 5 Hull 4.

On Sunday we visited Edinburgh's Murryfield rink to see the Capitals take on the Stingrays .Hull scored in 14 seconds taking ex-Storm netminder Dave Troffimenkoff completely by surprise but could find nothing at all in the tank after that. Troffie withstood everything thrown at him and Edinburgh were certainly the better team on the night.  The hotel was very nice and we are all looking forward to going back. We would like to go to Dundee next time too so look out for us there!

The next scheduled Phoenix On The Road trips are to:

Hull Stingrays versus Belfast Giants on January 22nd (with ex-Phoenix Captain George Awada playing for Belfast)

Sheffield Steelers v Hull Stingrays on January 23rd (ex-Phoenix netminder Jayme Platt is residing between the Sheffield pipes this season)

Blackburn Hawks v Sheffield Scimitars on January 30th (a chance to see Dave Clancy and Aaron Davies)
