Phoenix quiz night

Wednesday, 2nd February 2005
Thursday 20th January was the first Phoenix Quiz Night of 2005.  Despite reduced numbers, four teams of quiz enthusiasts were put through their paces by Quiz Mistress, Mag Pullen.

I think she must have been working overtime during the holidays because the questions are definitely getting harder, if not downright obscure!  Most of us are still puzzling over “What is it illegal to look at through an aeroplane window in the US state of Alaska?”  The answer we discovered was a moose, though we were all at a loss to explain just exactly how the police enforce this law!  If anyone has the answer to this question, please let us know!

When all the scores were in, Tambo’s Terrors were the eventual winners and retained the trophy.

Phoenix Quiz Nights are always very enjoyable.  Mags works very hard on producing the forty questions, plus picture and music rounds.  You are usually guaranteed to learn something new and it’s a great opportunity to meet up with hockey friends.  Not only that, the £5 per person entry fee goes towards the club.  As well as a trophy, a cash prize of £20 is on offer for the winning team and the team who come last always get a prize too.  In addition, throughout the evening there are various spot prizes to be won, usually chocolates, sweets or bottles of wine.

The next Quiz Night is Thursday, 24th February in the Team Room of the Sports Cafe at 8.00pm.  Don’t forget your Phoenix discount is still valid on food in the restaurant.
