About the Club
Club Aims
The club aims to provide a safe, positive and enjoyable ice hockey experience for all its members and to instill a love of the sport that will follow players into adulthood.
By subscribing to the belief that every member matters, the goal of our coaching staff is to give each player the opportunity and encouragement to achieve his or her potential, instructing them on the game's fundamentals and the skills required to play it.
This development programme will enable MPJIHC to enhance the physical, emotional and social well being of its members through the pursuit of excellence in ice hockey.
Club Structure
The club operates independently of, but in association with, the senior Manchester Phoenix club. It is affiliated to the English Ice Hockey Association.
Four representatives of Manchester Phoenix sit on the junior club's committee and our policies are developed with their help and input. We consider it vital that junior players can progress from under the age of six to the highest level of senior hockey in the UK in a co-ordinated way. The links between the senior and junior clubs are designed to make this possible.

Club rules
Ice hockey can be a fast and furious sport. All club members must respect club officials, follow their instructions and have a thorough understanding of what is, and is not, acceptable behaviour, both on and off the ice. For this reason, all members are asked to sign a confirmation that they have read, understood and agree to abide by, the club rules. Members are also given a set of rules to keep for reference. CASC Status
The club is registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club.
To achieve CASC status the club has to make a number of key undertakings. These include, among others:
- To promote community participation in amateur ice hockey.
- To have an open membership policy without discrimination.
- To set subscription levels which do not pose a significant obstacle to membership.
- To be non-profit making and to reinvest surplus income into the club.

Through CASC registration, the club receives tax benefits from HM Revenue and Customs on donations. Via the gift aid scheme, the club can claim an additional 28% of the value of a donation from anyone who pays tax. Child Protection
Child protection is given the highest priority by the English Ice Hockey Association. MPJIHC has its own Child Protection Officer with the following responsibilities:
- Ensuring that all those working with our club members are fully aware of what is required of them in relation to child protection issues.
- Carrying out the administrative work associated with processing information on new or re-registering coaches and volunteers.
- Liaising with club coaches to ensure that agreed procedures for the prevention of risk are followed.
- Acting as the contact person on matters relating to Child Protection at the Club.
All the club's officials and coaches have been the subject of satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks, in line with current policy. Key elements of child protection policy, including the issue of bullying, are also addressed in the club rules.
