Joining the Phoenix

Ready to become a Phoenix player? Every season the club looks for new players to bring into its squads that compete in the EIHA's Northern leagues. Most players join up when they're offered a place after our trials which are held in May / June, or at a coach's invitation after assessment in mid-season. Dates and times of trials will be announced on our home page.

As a member, you'll get weekly training sessions, the chance of selection for matches against clubs from around the country, the option of tours and tournaments and much more. Most members also get free access to 'stick and puck' and 'in-house' scrimmage sessions.

Our age groups are U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-19. The teams we run will depend on the number trialling at each age group. We'll let you know what we can offer you shortly after the trials.

To join the Phoenix junior club you'll be given an application pack. This includes a breakdown of membership costs and a standing order form for paying monthly subscriptions, a list of the personal information required, and a copy of the club rules. The manager of the squad you'll be joining will give you precise instructions of what is required.

Ice hockey is not a cheap sport to play. While we keep subscriptions as reasonable as possible, you do need to take costs into consideration. As a guide, the basic subscription costs for an Under 14 player in the 2006/7 season, taking one training session a week, including all match fees were:

• Club Annual registration fee (inc. EIHA insurance and licence): £58
• 10 monthly subscription instalments by standing order of £60

There are reductions for additional family members.

Please bear in mind that these monthly subscription fees are payable whether you turn up for training or not. The only exceptions are for players who are 'long term' ill or injured. There are also travel costs, kit costs etc to bear in mind.
