The second day of Junior Trials took place on Saturday July 1st at the Deeside ice rink, with nearly 70 players showcasing their skills and vying for spots on the Junior rosters. A team of coaches headed up by Paul 'Nipper' Bayliss ran drills and exercises for all of the age groups present, with the Chairman of the Phoenix Junior Development System keeping a keen eye on the skaters.
Chairman Paul Brown was very pleased with the turn-out of players, and is already making plans for the players. "We'll be contacting all the players in the next week to let them know how they performed, and to offer places on our League, Challenge and Training teams," says the Chairman. "Progress is being made quickly behind the scenes too - we're hoping to have the league fixtures confirmed for the Under 14s, 16s and 19s within the next few weeks."
The successful players may not even have to wait until the start of the season before they get chance to compete. "There's a possibility of an Under 14s and Under 16s tournament being held at Deeside in late August," says Paul, "and if it goes ahead then Phoenix will be entering the two age group League teams into the competition."
