Phoenix Juniors scale new heights.

Monday, 11th September 2006
For the latest event in its pre-season preparations the Manchester Phoenix Junior club met at Hayfield to tackle the steep climb to Kinder Plateau in the Peak District.

Thirty of the club's squad members rose to the challenge led by club coaching staff.  The steep ascent of 1,350 feet skirted Kinder Reservoir and up William Clough.  After a break to regain their composure the walkers turned east to reach Kinder Plateau and Kinder Downfall.  In superb late summer conditions spectacular views spanned Edale to the east and an uninterrupted panorama of over twenty miles westwards into the September haze.  The circular route returned via Kinder Scout and Kinder Low.

The demanding nature of this eight mile hike asked questions of all the players (and the coaches!).  They responded with genuine enthusiasm, and as fitness levels continue to improve, we look forward to translating this into measurable progress on the ice.  Bring it on!
