Phoenix Juniors Put Best Feet Forward

Monday, 24th September 2007

The Manchester Phoenix U-16 squads set out across Pennine trails last weekend aiming to raise over a thousand pounds for junior club funds.

The U-16B squad hit the Gritsone Trail through Lyme Park towards Disley, while the U16A team completed a loop between Hayfield and Edale taking in the Pennine Way and Jacob's Ladder.

Between them the two squads amassed 10 hours of walking, over 2000 feet of ascent, several blisters and plenty of sponsorship.

"The Phoenix supporters have been fantastic," enthused a junior club spokesperson. "Ice hockey is not a cheap sport to play, but people have been really generous in their sponsorship and it will certainly help us to get new players onto the ice in the coming weeks."

Further fund raisers are planned for later in the season, including a bag pack at Asda, Trafford Park in the run up to Christmas.
