Phoenix U-18's 37 - 0 Coventry Menace
Manchester Phoenix Under-18s' proved far too strong for an under-strength Coventry Menace side on Sunday as they romped to an emphatic victory.
The Midlands outfit have had a poor start to their season and they were up against it right from the start as Phoenix set about their task in workmanlike fashion, determined to maintain their unbeaten status. Captain Rick Ravey got the scoreboard moving with just 22 seconds having elapsed and Tom Hammond and Phil Hamer, with the first of his personal haul of eleven goals, quickly added shorthanded markers to put the home side in control. As a spectacle, the game was over by the first interval as Phoenix had rattled in a further eight goals to leave Coventry bewildered.
Despite their superiority, the Phoenix remained focussed and working to their coaches gameplan and the second period saw a further seven goals added to the one-sided score.
Sadly for the Coventry team, the third period brought even less respite as Phoenix continued to dominate and Jake Dalton in the Menace goal was forced to pick another 19 pucks from his net before his misery was finally ended.
Such was the dominance by the Phoenix, the first line of Sam Leaver, Phil Hamer, Rick Ravey together with defensemen Guy Boryczko and Shaun Dippnall amassed 20 goals and 20 assists between them.
Phoenix U-18s' Manager Alan Ravey noted, "I give credit to Coventry and Jake Dalton for their efforts in what was a trying game, but I give our players credit too for conducting themselves throughout the game in a professional manner."
