Juniors Net Elite Training

Players from the Manchester Phoenix Elite squad took to the ice in a Goalie Clinic for the junior club's aspiring netminders on Thursday evening.

Led by Scott Fankhauser and former Phoenix junior netminder, Aran Fox, the session was held as part of the junior's regular training night. The Elite squad's Simon Mangos, Nick Whyatt, Joe Tallari and captain Scott Basiuk joined in, taking the role of shooters for the training drills.

A Phoenix Junior club spokesman was delighted with the results commenting, "Netminders at many junior clubs have to practically teach themselves. There's usually little in the way of formal teaching for this highly specialised role and finding the right mentors can be tough. We're delighted that the senior squad have turned out to help us with this. They'll be back next month for a second session and we feel sure that all our goalies will benefit from the experience."

Three young netminders from Flintshire were also given the chance to join Thursday's Phoenix practice, and all the juniors are photographed alongside their Elite squad trainers.
