Phoenix commended for Junior Club progress

Thursday, 19th June 2008

In a fitting climax to their season, the Manchester Phoenix Junior Club have scooped the EIHA Chairman's Award for 2007-08.

Club Secretary Georgina Crebbin was presented with the prestigious cup by English Ice Hockey Association chairman, Ken Taggart at the body's Annual General Meeting last weekend.

The award was made in recognition of the huge strides taken by the club in developing junior hockey in a short space of time. From a standing start, Phoenix have won A-league promotion for three squads within two seasons and now have teams at Under-10 and Under-12 age groups ready to enter the league for the 2008-09 season.

"This award is for everyone working behind the scenes," enthused Phoenix Junior Club chairman Paul Brown. "It takes players to win games, but it takes a lot of committed volunteers to get them on to the ice in the first place. We have a hard working team of unsung heroes and heroines that make it all possible; coaches, fund raisers, administrators, managers, child protection reps, financial experts, match day volunteers, the list goes on.; This trophy acknowledges their efforts and I'd like to add my personal thanks to everyone who has supported the growth of the Manchester Phoenix Junior club."

The magnificent Chairman's Award trophy will sit proudly alongside the Phoenix Under-18s' 2007-08 Division Two Champions' medal in the club's growing collection of silverware.
