Under 12's lose, but not disheartened
Sheffield U-12s 7 - 1 Phoenix U-12's
Saturday saw the Phoenix Under-12s' travel to Sheffield and despite coming away on the wrong side of the score line, hope remain high for the rest of the season.
The home side took a two goal lead from the opening session after taking the lead on a third minute powerplay marker from Watson with Conor Howard of the Phoenix serving a minor penalty for Tripping. Sheffield doubled their lead in the 8th minute when Templar punished another Phoenix penalty, Billy Brewer sitting out a Charging minor to give the home side a second powerplay goal.
The middle period saw Phoenix enjoy more of the play, but they were unable to get the breakthrough their endeavours deserved before Sheffields' Watson increased the home sides lead with his second of the game assisted by Parker and Aheran. The play continued to swing from end to end, however the home defence were standing firm and denying the Phoenix forwards clear scoring opportunities.
The final fifteen minutes saw Sheffield rubber-stamp their victory as Parker netted ahead of Ritchie scoring a third powerplay marker for the home side. Watson completed his hat-trick as once again, the Phoenix had fallen into penalty trouble and Parker completed the home scoring with his second of the game with less than four minutes to play. Undaunted, the Phoenix youngsters dug deep and their persistence was rewarded as Max Howard and Sophie Reeks combined for Joshua Hartsorn to finally get them on the scoreboard.
A spokesperson for the Junior club commented, "The team gave 100% throughout the whole game and unfortunately, the score doesn't reflect how closely matched both teams are. Today's game with Sheffield was a great improvement from last season, and the players showed just how much the team is improving!"
