Coventry too strong for Phoenix U-16s'

Tuesday, 6th October 2009

Coventry U-16s 6 - 1 Phoenix U-16s

The Phoenix youngsters travelled to Skydome on September 26th knowing they were in for a tough road trip against their counterparts from Coventry.

In a first period that was keenly contested, Phoenix netminder Jorge el Hage was in sparkling form turning aside all 13 shots that he faced as the visitors held their hosts at bay for a scoreless first session.

The second period saw the home side take the lead, Venus scoring just over a minute into the session and then Gillat added a second with less than three minutes played. Phoenix recovered their composure and the defence stood firm in denying Coventry any further markers. The strangest incident saw Coventry lose Selby on a 2+2 Roughing and a 10-minute Misconduct penalty.

The final session saw Coventry double their advantage before Phoenix finally got some reward for their valiant efforts - Scott Robson scoring in the 36th minute assisted by Jared Dickinson. Disappointingly, the goal only served to spur on Coventry and they added two more before the final hooter to complete a 6-1 victory.
