U16: Whitley Bay vs Phoenix

Tuesday, 6th October 2009

Whitley Bay U-16s 4 - 0 Phoenix U-16s

Manchester Phoenix U-16s' made the long trip to Whitley Bay on Sunday hoping to get back to winning ways, but came up against a home side in good form.

Whitley Bay started strongly and the Phoenix youngsters had to defend doggedly at times to keep them at bay in the opening period. Netminder Jorge el Hage was again in excellent form and his efforts ensure the teams went to the locker room tied at 0-0 at the first interval.

The home side finally broke the deadlock in the 25th minute as they again dominated the possession and the shots on goal count found heavily in their favour. El Hage continued his fine showing, but the signs were clear that Whitley Bay had the offensive strength and that sooner or later it would tell.

The final period finally saw Whitley Bay impose their superiority as they posted three further goals, two at even strength and the third on a powerplay after Jared Dickenson had been assessed a 2+10 for Elbows.

A Phoenix spokeslady noted, "We knew before the game that Whitley Bay would be a stiff test and that's how it panned out. The team worked hard though throughout the game and if they conitnue to work hard for each other, we know they can turn things around."
