Phoenix Juniors Aim Higher

Tuesday, 24th November 2009

A bumper crop of Manchester Phoenix Juniors are trialling for regional squads in the run-up to Christmas.

Eight Phoenix hopefuls are still in the hunt for much prized places in Northern Conference sides.

First year U-18s, Liam Acey and netminder Bob Browne, are aiming for the Northern U-17 squad, along with experienced Conference player Jared Dickinson of the Phoenix U-16 side.

In the U-15 category, Scott Robson is looking for a Conference recall, while netminder Harry Greaves is still in the frame for the U-13 age group.

A trio of Phoenix players will be skating in trials at Bradford this weekend. Sophie Reeks, Josh Hartsorn and netminder Joe Murphy are all hoping to represent Manchester in the U-11 squad.

The Conference system selects players from each region of Britain and runs training programmes and tours to prepare them for the end of season inter-conference tournament. Players that shine at conference level may then go on to be selected for School of Excellence programmes and, ultimately, the Great Britain national teams.

The Phoenix club wishes all eight of this season's Phoenix triallists the very best of luck as they progress through trials in the coming weeks.
