Coventry 4 - 5 Phoenix

In a game played over two twenty minute periods, the Manchester Phoenix U-14 squad came out on top against a stubborn and determined Coventry team on their own ice in Skydome.

An early penalty on Joe Rogers gave the home side the perfect start as Callam netted a sixth minute powerplay marker. Further penalty trouble saw the visitors fall two goals behind in the ninth minute, Charvill netting unassisted for the home side. And it got worse still for the Phoenix as Clarke put Coventry three goals clear in the 12th minute. However the Phoenix youngsters didn't panic and they began their fightback with Sheldon Cassidy netting their first on an assist from Thomas Wilson just under two minutes later. It was game on in the 16th minute as Michael Gilbert put the finishing touch to approach play from Jack Binley and Michael Sergienko to make it a one-goal game. Coventry were rattled and despite being awarded a penalty shot after Lily Greave was penalised for throwing her stick, they failed to take advantage.

The break allowed both teams to re-group, but it was Coventry first to score in the second session, Callam notching his second of the game only for Phoenix to strike back inside thirty seconds, Thomas Wilson assisted by Sheldon Cassidy. Just over a minute later and the scores were tied as Cassidy equalised in style, unassisted. It was all Phoenix now and Wilson fired the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute. Tempers frayed shortly afterwards and Coventry's Callam and Phoenix Lliy Greaves both picked up ten-minute misconduct penalties and Coventry lost their composure collecting a further twenty minutes in misconduct penalties.

A Phoenix spokesperson noted, "The team were under pressure to begin with and they fought back well in the first period. Even when Coventry scored early in the second, they didn't panic and in the end were worthy winners."
