Hull Stingrays U18 vs Phoenix U18

Tuesday, 29th November 2011

Phoenix started today`s game with a very different looking side after a couple of recent departures, for which we wish them all the best of luck, and other players missing from the game.

Hull started the better side and was quick to test Paddy King in net, and the home side dominated the first 5 minutes of play.

The best move for Phoenix ended with a double shot saved, this proved to be only a temporary respite, as Hull pressed constantly and were rewarded after 8.38 with a goal.

Phoenix began to string some better moves together but was thwarted in front of net.

The home clock broke down for a minor stoppage which seemed to slow Phoenix down a little.

The controversial moment of this game came in the final minute of the period, a Hull shot clearly ricocheted into the netting above the plexi glass, bounced off the bottom of the scoreboard, bounced down onto the top of our net and rolled off for a simple tap-in, 0-2, the goal should not have counted and came at a vital time.

Phoenix came out for the 2nd period with much more determination and tested the home net minder with some early shots.

Hull had a couple of early penalties which Phoenix failed to capitalise upon.

Phoenix got themselves back into the game after 26.47 with a fantastic solo goal and finish high into the top corner by Luke Smith; it was now 1-2 and game-on.

This was all nullified soon after with another goal to Hull, 1-3 and Phoenix are chasing the game again. The 2nd period ended very evenly with chances for both sides, but, Phoenix just couldn’t force another goal. The 3rd period ended 2 – 4 with the second goal scored by a determined Scott Robson who made a remarkable comeback from injury who at times appeared to be the main target of Stingray faithful who on the day were marginally the stronger team.

The man of the match went to Paddy King.
