Lind lands on Phoenix blueline

Wednesday, 16th July 2003

Barely twenty-four hours after naming David Kozier as a Phoenix forward, head coach Rick Brebant has named former Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick Eric Lind as the latest recruitment to the team defensive corps.

Standing 6ft 2ins and weighing in around 195lbs, Eric Lind will be a presence on the Phoenix blueline that opposing forwards will have to try and navigate around. An Economics graduate of the University of New Hampshire, the 25-year old from Norwalk in Connecticut has played the past three seasons in the East Coast Hockey League with the Mississippi Sea Wolves and Greenville Grrrowl.

Brebant commented on his latest signing, “Eric has ideal size for a defenceman, he’s a right-handed shot and our research has turned up nothing but good things about him. He’s a smart player who knows when to jump up on the play, is a very good skater and is a leader on the team. He’s been an alternate captain in Greenville and references we’ve taken have all said he’s a great guy in the locker room. I like to research a players character and in Eric, I believe we will get that in abundance.”

Eric Lind is excited about the opportunity that lies ahead of him as he advised, “Everyone tells me Manchester is a great city and I’m looking forward to coming over. I pride myself on my skating, my shot isn’t too bad and I like to play special teams. Moreover, I’ll play anywhere the coach wants me to – I want to win and will do whatever it takes. I played four years on Olympic sized ice pads in college, so that aspect of coming to Europe doesn’t bother me at all.”

Brebant added, “Eric is a clever player and like David Kozier is very hungry. For a big guy, as his stats show, he doesn’t take a lot of penalties preferring to let his skating and ability do the talking. I think the fans are going to appreciate this guy tremendously.”
