Phoenix report Playoff ticket frenzy

Wednesday, 19th March 2008

Manchester Phoenix have been inundated with ticket requests for the home leg of their forthcoming playoff series against the Sheffield Steelers, and the regular season hasn't finished yet.

Phoenix travel to both the Nottingham Panthers and Hull Stingrays this comingb weekend, but since last weekend when it became clear that the two rivals would meet for the right to go to the Finals Weekend, the clamour for tickets for the home game in Altrincham has grown rapidly. A club spokesperson noted on Wednesday evening, “straight away, we knew this would be a big game and a big crowd. If the demand continues at the present rate, if it doesn’t sell-out, we won’t be far short. On-line ticket purchase are coming in every hour and the ‘phones have been busy with people booking early to guarantee their ticket.”

Phoenix vs Steelers games historically draw bigger than average crowds and this eagerly awaited playoff pairing could see the biggest crowd yet at the one-year old Ice Dome. The spokesperson continued, “This time last year, we’d not long been in the building, now it really is our home and the atmosphere on game nights is electric. Sheffield always bring a strong contingent of travelling support and they are already buying tickets in droves.”

With Phoenix playing in Sheffield on Friday 28th, the return leg in Altrincham on Sunday 30th promises to be a nail-biting encounter. Phoenix GM Andy Costigan stated, “We’ll be the underdogs for sure, but that suits us. Barnsley turned over Liverpool and Chelsea in the FA Cup, and that says it all. They weren’t given a prayer, but won, and that’s the spirit we’ll take into the games with the Steelers. The Ice Dome on the 30th will be a cauldron and I’m urging all Phoenix supporters to get their tickets early to avoid missing the biggest game of the season for both clubs."
