Elite League agrees criteria with Work Permits UK

Thursday, 7th August 2003

The Elite Ice Hockey League has agreed the criteria to be adopted by Work Permits UK for the employment of players and coaches in the league for the forthcoming season 2003-2004.

EIHL, with other bodies of the sport in the UK and Work Permits UK, have developed the criteria to ensure that players within the EU community are given adequate protection from an influx of other foreign players, whilst at the same time ensuring that there is also opportunity for good quality players who might otherwise not be eligible to be employed in the UK.

EIHL is voluntarily restricting the number of work permits to no more than 5 per club at any one time.

This, together with the progressive development programme with its affiliate teams from other UK based leagues, will provide a much-needed boost to the opportunities available to local players.
