Starke praises "Breakaway King" Beauregard

Tuesday, 8th July 2008

Former Phoenix winger Sean Starke reckons new signing David Beauregard will be the "Breakway King" of the bmibaby Elite League this coming season.

Starke played alongside his fellow Montreal native at the Roanoke Valley Vipers in 2006 and really rates him. "David is a natural goalscorer and he will do really well in Manchester, of that I have no doubt. Last season Phoenix had Joe Tallari and he was terrific in front of goal, but I'd say David is a better scorer even than Joe. David has a way to find space and the number of breakaways he gets is unreal, and he's deadly."

Another former Manchester favourite who has experience of playing alongside David Beauregard is defenceman Troy Neumeier. Speaking from his home in Saskatchewan, Neumeier noted, "David joined the team in Fort Wayne partway through the 2003-04 season and we knew we were getting someone special. He was asked to play a slightly different role to that he was used to and he bought right into it. We won the championship and David was a huge part of that success."

Neumeier added, "Beau is a terrific person, laid back and quiet, but he does the business on the ice. He's such a smart player and amazing to watch. When he called me to say he'd had an approach from Tony Hand in Manchester, I told him he'd be crazy not to go there. If Tony plays next year and they play together, that could be something very, very special indeed to watch."
