Phoenix announce cup semi-final date

Thursday, 8th January 2009

Manchester Phoenix have finally settled a date for their home leg of the Challenge Cup semi-final against the Basingstoke Bison.

As previously announced by the Basingstoke Bison, the first game of the two-legged tie will be held at the Basingstoke Ice Rink on Wednesday February 4th.

Phoenix officials are pleased to confirm that the second leg will be played in the Silver Blades Ice Dome, Altrincham on Sunday February 15th with a face-off time of 5.30pm.

A Phoenix spokesperson advised, "We've spent an awful long time examining every possible option to try and play this game against Basingstoke on a weekend. We contacted all the teams we're due to be playing and tried to re-schedule, but it proved nigh on impossible to achieve as the number of moves needed to accommodate both clubs would have meant major disruption to over half the league."

"Finally, with agreement from the league, we'll play our home leg slightly later in February than previously planned, having agreed to re-schedule the Knockout Cup tie with the Hull Stingrays - originally slated for Feb 15th - to a different date, most likely to be a midweek fixture, and we'll look to confirm this new date as quickly as possible."

"With both dates now set for the Challenge Cup semi, both clubs and their supporters can look forward to two exciting games to determine who will go forward to the final."
