Thursday, 11th September 2003

South Manchester-based radio station Imagine FM has been unveiled as the official radio partner of Manchester’s new ice hockey team, Manchester Phoenix.

The news comes ahead of the side’s first home clash in the Ice Hockey Elite League at the MEN Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester Phoenix has chosen to work with Imagine FM because of the station’s continued commitment to local sport.

Manchester Phoenix Managing Director, Neil Morris says: “Imagine FM is one of the most innovative radio stations around and has a reputation for giving minority sports coverage and support. The station’s profile has also grown massively over the past twelve months and it’s clearly one of the up and coming radio stations in the area.

Imagine FM Programme Manager, Ashley Byrne says: “Ice hockey has long been a popular sport in South Manchester and we’re delighted to be able to support Manchester Phoenix in their bid to get more people through the doors at the MEN Arena.”

“Our partnership with Manchester Phoenix will give our listeners the chance to experience the excitement of live ice hockey and have a fantastic time in the process. We’ve got tickets to give away to every home match this season.”

Ashley continued: “This partnership further underlines Imagine FM’s commitment to premier live local sport. We support Stockport County home and away, have followed South Manchester’s world class swimmers around the globe and are about to introduce a regular pre-match rugby union show dedicated to Sale Sharks.”
