The off-ice report

Wednesday, 4th May 2005
This week's signing news sees a familiar face returning to the Championship-winning Coventry Blaze, with Andreas Moborg putting pen to paper to return to the Skydome blue-line.  Moborg was a part of the Coventry line-up that captured the BNL title in 2003, the season before the Blaze switched to the Elite League, and he comes back to Coventry following a stint with the Bremerhaven Fishtown Penguins.

Coach Paul Thompson is delighted with Moborg's progress whilst he's been in Germany.  "We've got a player that is more rounded and experienced than when he left us two years ago.  They were desperate to sign him for a third season in Bremerhaven, but Andreas has kept an eye on the Blaze and is keen to be part of this Grand Slam-winning outfit again."

Moborg himself is happy to be returning to the Blaze. "The reason that I am coming back to Coventry is that I am seeing a bright future for the team and I would like to be a part of that.  The organisation is growing in professionalism, but the number one thing is that I want to be in an organisation that has the same goal as me, winning.  I am very pleased to be returning and to be putting on the Blaze shirt again."

News of Moborg's signing comes hot on the heels of news that Coventry power forward Adam Calder has left the club and has signed for Swedish team Vaxjo Lakers.

Newcastle Vipers have bolstered their coaching staff with the return to the bench of Glenn Mulvenna.  The former Cobras player was last on these shores as a part of the Newcastle Jesters coaching team, alongside Jukka Jalonen, four seasons ago, and now Mulvenna will be back coaching on Tyneside in the Assistant Coach role.

Chairman and co-owner Paddy O'Connor welcomes Mulvenna's move to the Vipers.  "A coach of Glenn's calibre can only be an advantage to the club, and I am looking forward to welcoming him on board as a colleague and a returning friend."
