Phoenix recruitment drive well underway

Wednesday, 4th May 2011

Coach Tony Hand is burning the midnight oil, ploughing his way through CV's and recommendations of players, to bring the best he can to Phoenix for the coming season.

He is currently on a short golfing break in Spain, hoping to chill out for a few days before the mayhem continues. Naturally, with hockey being the way it is, his mobile has been ringing all hours of the day and night with calls from agents, players and contacts. That must have been frustrating when on the green, putting for a win and probably, a beer. Wonder if his colleagues set him up on this one?

On the signing front, coach Hand is confident that the ink will be dry on the contract of our new centre and an announcement will be out soon. We will also have news of a returnee who has just to dot the I's and cross the t's on a deal to keep him with the club for another season.

Tony said " During the summer, the dynamic of the team will change as we sign players to specific roles, then re-evaluate those available to fit in with the system we play at Phoenix. There are many, many players available and it is a constantly changing thought process to get the right fit for the right position within the team."

As Coach says, there are plenty of players available at this time of year, and as we know, our coach is a dab "Hand" at finding an absolute gem late on in the recruitment process. Players like Johan Molin, Joe Tallari and David Beauregard all became available late in the summer.

Last word from Neil Morris: "I leave all this hard work to Tony. I have total belief in his work and am confident we will again have a Phoenix team that will entertain and one which we will all be proud of."
