Hockey was hit with another tragedy on Wednesday 7th September. A plane carrying the Kontinental Hockey League team, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, crashed on takeoff, killing all but one of the entire 37 man squad of the team. There were also 4 members of the team’s youth squad on board. The players were on their way to Minsk for the first KHL game of the season.

Manchester Phoenix Ice Hockey club join the rest of the world wide hockey family in expressing its sincere condolences to the families of all who perished.

Managing Director Neil Morris said:”At times like this, we are reminded that our great sport is just a game. This is a terrible tragedy for the global ice hockey community and our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends of the victims.”

The club will observe a minutes silence at the Trafford Metros’ game on Saturday at the Altrincham Ice Dome.
