It's hockey time... at last!

Friday, 16th September 2011

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix are ready to go.

The players are here, and after days of training with Coach Hand, they are ready to rumble.

As has been the case for the last two years, we are taking on our closest rivals the Sheffield Steeldogs in the annual War of the Roses challenge series.

Phoenix and their large travelling band of supporters will be making the trip across Woodhead Pass to Ice Sheffield on Saturday for the first leg. The game faces off at 1930hrs.

The Steeldogs, under ex Phoenix tough guy Andre Payette, have strengthened their line up and will prove a stern test for us over the weekend.

There is also the added spice of three of Phoenix’s championship winning side defecting to the dark side. Greg Wood, Pavel Gomeniuk and Ben Morgan have changed their allegiance and will be doing all they can to take the trophy back to Sheffield for the first time.

The second leg is at the Ice Dome on Sunday with the usual 1730 face off and is sure to be a barn burner.

Will we, again, be too strong for the Steeldogs or, have they upped their game to give us a severe preseason test.

Get yourself down to the Ice Dome on Sunday and find out for yourself. Come and see the new look Manchester Phoenix set out on another long season, building on last year’s championship winning success.
