Fireworks planned as Phoenix head to Deeside

Friday, 17th October 2003

Manchester Phoenix have announced a move of a midweek home game from the MEN Arena to the Deeside Leisure Centre on Tuesday November 4th.

Phoenix were originally scheduled to host the London Racers the following night – Bonfire Night – in the MEN Arena, but have chosen to move the fixture for two-fold reasons.

Managing Director Neil Morris commented, “Initially, we did think of possibly putting on some pyrotechnics as well as the game against the Racers on November 5th, but the cost was prohibitive and we felt it right to move the game anyway so people can enjoy the traditional Bonfire Night fireworks. From a commercial perspective, taking the game to Deeside the night before is more prudent and if successful, we may take further midweek games there too.”

Head Coach Rick Brebant added, “The people at Deeside have made us welcome right from the first day we went there and by taking the challenge game against Newcastle and now the league game against London there, we hope to build another arm to our fan base while giving the people of Chester and Deeside an opportunity to see the local players – Dave Clancy and Marc Lovell – in action for the Phoenix.”

Neil Morris concluded, “We hope this move will give everyone two nights of fireworks, firstly with the Phoenix in Deeside and then an evening of Roman candles and rockets
