Phoenix release Jake Nurse

Thursday, 4th October 2012

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix regret to announce the release of young local forward Jake Nurse at his own request.

Jake, 22, stepped up to the senior squad for one game in the 2009-10 season and iced for them last season during Phoenix’s injury crisis. Coach Hand offered him a contract for the 2012-13 season and Jake expressed his delight at moving up to the EPL squad.

However, Jake has found it increasingly difficult to secure time off work for training and the long away trips Phoenix have to undertake most weekends. After speaking with Coach Hand, he made the difficult decision to ask for his release.

Press officer Jim Piper caught up with Jake and he had this to say: “ I am really disappointed but I had to think of my employment and the difficult situation training and travelling put me in. I will be returning to the Metros where there is not as much time pressure on me and I am lucky there is a slot on their squad. I would like to thank Coach Hand and Neil Morris for the opportunity to play for Phoenix and also thank the fantastic fans who have shown me amazing support throughout.”

Coach Hand said:  “It is a pity for the lad. He was enjoying training and learning his trade and getting on well with the squad. Who knows? We may see him again in a Phoenix shirt at some time.”

Jake will return to the Trafford Metros as soon as release formalities are completed.
