Thursday, 13th November 2003

Manchester Phoenix captain George Awada will miss this Saturdays’ road trip to Basingstoke due to a family bereavement.

Phoenix head coach Rick Brebant advised, “George has received sad news from home that his Uncle has passed away and naturally, he wants to go home to be with his family at a trying time. As a club, we perfectly understand and respect his wishes and send our thoughts to his family for their loss at this time. We have told George to take as long as he feels necessary but he has said he expects to back in time for the road trips to Nottingham and Sheffield next weekend.”

Speaking ahead of leaving for Minneapolis via Amsterdam the Phoenix captain said, “The news was unexpected and my parents are a little shaken. I haven’t spoken to my Dad yet, I’ll wait till I get home. Rick was very understanding and I want to thank him and the club for helping me arrange flights as quickly as they have.”
