Phoenix out to spook the Phantoms and take the spark out of the Lightning

Saturday, 28th December 2013

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix have a delayed programme this weekend as they are playing on Sunday and Monday instead of the traditional Saturday/Sunday games.

First up on Sunday, Peterborough Phantoms make their second visit to the Dome with the usual face off at 1730hrs.

Peterborough will be desperate to avoid a repeat of the 11-0 mauling they took on their last visit. Since then, there have been quite a few changes in their line up and coaching staff. Phoenix favourite Slava Koulikov has left troubled Slough to take up the reins at Bretton Road and has taken a couple of Jets players with him.

Phoenix will have to watch out for their new top line combination of Erik Piatek, Darius Pliskauskas and Slava Koulikov. On form, they will trouble any defence.

At the back, new netminder Karim Jarina had a sticky start at Slough but has showed recently he is a very experienced goalie and will tighten up the Phantoms’ defence.

Phoenix will be hoping to have injured players Frankie Bakrlik and Andrew McKinney back in the line up to give the fans a post-Christmas treat of another home win.

Coach Hand said of the upcoming fixtures:

“We had a tough game against Peterborough down in their rink and did well to come away with the two points. However, we are strong at home and will be looking for another victory. MK are having a bit of an up and down season but are lying in 4th place and, although we have the jump on them in the series so far, they are never easy games. As always we have prepared well for the fixtures and go into both games with confidence.”

On Monday the lads travel to Coventry, the temporary home of Milton Keynes Lightning, in another tough league fixture.
