Milton Keynes Lightning 7 - Manchester Phoenix 2

Phoenix Scorers:  Robin Kovar and Ben Wood

J Davidson Sponsored Manchester Phoenix lost heavily in Coventry on Monday Night against a determined Milton Keynes outfit.

Everything started so well for Phoenix and they took the lead on 11.45 through Robin Kovar, assisted by Andrew McKinney. They held that lead until shortly before the end of the 2nd period when they lost two goals in 38 seconds. Lascek and Jamieson were the scorers for the home side as they took a 2-1 lead into the final period.
The wheels came off in the third with the loss of 3 goals in less than six minutes. Jamieson hit his second of the night and a Jokila double made the score 5-1. Shortly after the fifth goal, James Archer and Janne Jokilla had an altercation that saw them both sit for 4 minutes for roughing with James picking up an extra 2 minutes for a slash. Lascek made it 6-1 before Ben Wood pulled a consolation goal back for Phoenix. Assists went to Robin Kovar and a first point to new signing Jaroslav Cesky. The scoring was completed with five seconds left in the game with a Carr goal to make the final score 7-2 to Lightning.

Coach Hand commented after the game:

“All credit to Milton Keynes for a good performance and a deserved win tonight. I thought we were guilty of some soft defending . You have to come to play every night and we didn’t this time and were punished. This will be a good wake up call for us and we will bounce back against Basingstoke on Saturday. One of our objectives was to be at the top at Xmas and we have achieved that. On another note, I have to say I was disappointed with the conduct of a couple of the officials during the game  last night and will be speaking to the league on the matter.”

Phoenix travel to Basingstoke on Saturday for a top of the table clash with the Bison then back to the Dome  on Sunday for an encounter with the Swindon Wildcats. Face off is the usual 1730hrs.
