Manchester Phoenix 6 - Swindon Wildcats 3

Phoenix scorers: Robin Kovar x 3, Michal Psurny x 2, Richard Bentham.

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix continued their home winning streak and bounced back from defeat on Saturday night with a good win against a plucky Swindon side.

Phoenix took the lead with a power play goal on 5.11 by Robin Kovar when netminder Stephen Lyle failed to clear a Tony Hand shot and Robin struck the puck home. Second assist went to Joe Graham. Swindon hit back with a vengeance with two goals in two minutes. Firstly Jan Kostal hit a rebound into the net after a Sam Smith shot was saved by Stephen Fone, returning from illness, having missed Saturday’s defeat. The visitors took the lead on 9.16 through Jonas Hoog and went to the first break with a 2-1 lead.

Phoenix were struggling to break Swindon down but everything clicked in a devastating 79 second spell when they hit three unanswered goals. Michal Psurny hit the first with a Robert Schnabel assist and then Richard Bentham hit the goal of the night as the third line rushed the Swindon defence. Assists went to Liam Chong and Jack Watkins. Robin Kovar completed the scoring spree with his second of the night, assisted by Jaroslav Cesky and Andy McKinney.

Phoenix started the third period strongly but it was Swindon who scored to make the score 4-3. Aaron Nell scored, assisted by Jonas Hoog. Phoenix hit back strongly with a Michal Psurny goal with assists going to James Archer and Robert Schnabel and the evening’s scoring was completed on 54.43 with Robin Kovar getting his hat trick goal, assisted by Richard Bentham and Liam Chong.

The result keeps Phoenix in third place, just two points behind Basingstoke and one point adrift of Guildford. However Phoenix have 3 games in hand over Bison and 4 over the Flames.

Phoenix are next in action on Saturday against Milton Keynes and return to the Dome on Sunday for another top of the table clash with Basingstoke.
