Milton Keynes Lightning 7 - Manchester Phoenix 2

Phoenix scorers: Michal Psurny and Robin Kovar

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix suffered another heavy defeat at the hands of Milton Keynes Lightning on Saturday night.

Things did not start well for the visitors as they were assessed a bench minor penalty right at the start of the game for a team sheet error.

However, on the ice, Phoenix took the lead on 4.58 with a Michal Psurny goal, assisted by James Archer. 25 seconds later the scores were tied as Janne Jokila scored, assisted by Blaz Emersic. With 5 minutes left on the first period clock, Phoenix went to the penalty box for an icing infringement and MK took the lead. The penalty was half way through as Jokila scored his second of the night. This time Tom Carlon and Nick Poole were awarded the assists. The period ended with no further scoring and 2-1 to the home side.

The second period was a disaster for Phoenix as Emersic, Jokila, McPherson and a fourth goal for Jokila put the game beyond Manchester.

Phoenix made chances of their own in the third period but a rampant Lightning made it 7-1 with 90 seconds left with an Adam Carr goal. Phoenix scored a second consolation goal in the last minute through Robin Kovar, assisted by Andrew McKinney and Liam Chong but Phoenix were a well beaten side by this time.

Phoenix will look to bounce back on Sunday with another tough game. The Basingstoke Bison are at the Dome with the usual 1730hrs face off.
