Phoenix announce two more players at Home Coming Party

Friday, 22nd July 2016

Manchester Phoenix have signed two imports for the coming English Premier League Season. Both are forwards and come from the Czech Republic.

First up early this week was Roman Malinik, 26, from Ostrava. He played his junior career for HC Vitkovice at under 18 and 20 levels and made 3 appearances in the first team in the Czech Extraliga before crossing the pond to join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League at Baie-Comeu Drakkar, having been picked in round 1 of the CHL import draft.

Returning back home in 2009 he played the last two years of his junior career with Vitkovice and was loaned out to Dukla Jihlava of the Czech 2nd league then to Frydek-Mistek in the 3rd league. He must have impressed the Jihlava coach as he kept him on the books for 2 further years.

2013-14 saw him move to Havlickuv Brod in Liga 2 and stay for two seasons, wearing the Captain’s armband in 2014-15. Although having only ventured out of his homeland once, he has played consistently at a high level and will bring plenty to the Phoenix table.

Joining Roman in Phoenix colours for 2016-17 is Jakub Langhammer. The 31 year old left winger comes from Kladno in the Czech Republic and brings an absolute wealth of experience to our club.

Jakub has iced over 450 times in the Czech Extraliga for Sparta Prague, Ceske Budejovice, Hradec Kralove and Slavia Prague. Prior to that, he had two seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Spokane Chiefs, a few loan periods in Czech 2 and 3 and recently two seasons in the German 2nd and 3rd leagues.

His accomplished career has brought him 2 Extraliga championship medals, 4 appearances in the Czech Senior National team and representative honours at Under 17, 18 and 20 levels. At 6ft 2 and 212lbs he is going to be a handful for EPL defencemen this season.
