"Weekends all the way" is the Phoenix plan!

Friday, 30th June 2006

Manchester Phoenix are returning to the ice for the forthcoming season, and the plan is for all of the Phoenix home fixtures to be played at the new Altrincham Ice Dome on weekends, says Managing Director Neil Morris.  Speaking this evening, Neil has indicated that the plan is for most of the home fixtures to be played on Sundays, with a handful of games to be played on Saturdays.

"The fixtures haven't been set in stone yet," says Neil, "but the draft schedule that we have is all about weekend games for Phoenix.  Sunday is our preferred day to play, and Sunday is what we look likely to get for most of our games.  We'll probably be hosting some games on Saturdays for the benefit of the visiting teams, but mostly it'll be Sundays, which would be exactly what we wanted!"

This past week's Elite League fixture meeting was unable to be completed due to problems faced by Sheffield Steelers in confirming their required ice time, but it is hoped that the League fixtures will be formalised and published soon.

On the subject of how the Manchester team is taking shape, Neil is thrilled at the prospect of seeing the Phoenix take to the ice again.  "Tony Hand is a Coach who knows what he is doing, he's building a solid team that will be exciting to watch.  We're going to be challenging for the silverware this year, we'll have a new rink, a new junior system and a new team - I can't wait!"

When asked about further Phoenix player signings, Neil teased "you'll just have to watch this space!"
