Knock-Out Cup semi-final draw confirmed

Wednesday, 14th February 2007

The draw for the semi-final line-up of the Knock-Out Cup was made on Tuesday and has served up two mouth-watering ties.

The bmibaby Elite League leading Coventry Blaze will meet the Manchester Phoenix in what is a repeat of their semi-final pairing in the Challenge Cup earlier in the season. In the other tie, the surging Sheffield Steelers will play the Cardiff Devils in what promises to be another fascinating encounter.

Officials from the Blaze and Phoenix have confirmed that to eliminate further fixture congestion for both clubs, their two-legged semi-final will coincide with bmibaby Elite League fixtures already slated for Wednesday February 28th in the Coventry Skydome with the return leg the following Wednesday, March 7th in the Altrincham Ice Dome.

The Sheffield Steelers and Cardiff Devils have agreed to meet in a winner-take-all, one game tie to be staged at Ice Sheffield on Wednesday February 28th with a 7.30pm face-off time.

An Elite League spokesperson commented, “Both ties will have extra spice on them for differing reasons. Coventry and Manchester have already met in a semi-final this year with the Blaze prevailing, so their tie for a place in the final, on the back of the scrap for league points, promises to be a corker. And with the Steelers playing the Devils in a one-off tie, the pressure will be on right from the first face-off. With the game being staged at Ice Sheffield, tickets for the smaller capacity building are likely to be very hot property.”
