Although directly affiliated with their parent club, ice-hockey's English Premier League (EPL) Manchester Phoenix, and obviously still an integral part of the organisations' junior development programme, the Altrincham-based English National League (ENL) side have announced a name change.
With a nostalgic nod to the past but with their focus clearly on the future, the Trafford Metros will once again skate on Altrincham ice.
Commenting upon the name and accompanying change of logo, ENL Trafford Metros Head Coach Paul 'Nipper' Bayliss said:
"Obviously I remember when both the Aces and Metros played out of the Devonshire Road rink, and thought those team names had been buried under the rubble of the old building. But when the suggestion of reintroducing the Metros name came up to help differentiate the EPL and ENL sides, I thought it was a great idea.
"Hopefully the new Metros can unite old and new fans, and begin another chapter in Altrincham's long ice-hockey history."
