Trafford Metros start a run of three consecutive home games on Saturday with the visit of relegation-threatened Nottingham Lions.
Lions edged the corresponding fixture at the NIA three weeks ago, turning in a 2-0 victory against the travelling Mets. This time around the midlanders will be on the prowl for two more points to keep themselves out of trouble and above Coventry Blaze. Coventry will play basement boys Solihull on Sunday, and if they win, not only will they heap extra pressure on to Nottingham, but Solihull's relegation will also be confirmed. So, it's all getting very tight at the bottom, and it's unlikely that Mets will be allowed to turn in a routine home victory when the Lions have so much to play for.
Metros, meanwhile, have problems of their own. The headcount of walking wounded is beginning to take on weekend shopping list proportions. Dan and Marc Etherington, Jake Nurse, John Murray, Jason Pirie and Si Mills are all likely to be ruled out with an array of ailments. On the plus side, many of the squad less used to prolonged ice time exposure could be getting their chance to shine this weekend. So come and watch out for players on a mission to make their mark and help carry off a series victory against the Lions this Saturday at the Altrincham Ice Dome. Face off is at the usual 5.15pm. Your support will be appreciated by the whole squad.
