Murphy gets Thompson's backing for the Dutch game

Friday, 18th April 2008

GB take on Holland in Game Four of their World Championship campaign on Friday, a victory would set up a medal clash against Kazakhstan on Saturday evening. After his outstanding performance against Korea on Wednesday, GB Head Coach Paul Thompson has this afternoon told Stephen Murphy that he will retain the goaltenders jersey for GB's most important game.

"It was always my intention to give Stephen Murphy the start against Korea, for one I think he deserved it and with so many games in a short time you want to use all of your players so they are not jaded. My thought was that I would go back with Stevie Lyle for the Holland game, however Murphy did so well, stopped so many pucks and won the man of the match award. He is obviously full of confidence right now and his performance against Korea convinced me that he was the man to go with.

"We are lucky to have two such good and competitive goalies as these two guys, they push each other to be better. It was a tough decision but that's what I am here to do. I have full confidence in both of them, I know Stephen will play all out for me against the Dutch."
