Phoenix, so far

Monday, 11th June 2012

The Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham was once again the venue for a Phoenix event, and this time it was the Phoenix So Far evening.  The evening was a chance for the Phoenix faithful to catch up on events at the Phoenix, to hear about the progress being made by the Phoenix Foundation, and to see the two new players being unveiled.

In attendance to kick things off were team owner Neil Morris, compere Pete Hagan and recent re-signee James Neil, back for another season with the Phoenix.  It didn't take long before our two new signings were introduced to the applause of the supporters.  First up was Scott McKenzie, formerly of EPL rivals Telford Tigers, who was warmly received with his promise of notching up 'sixty or seventy points' for the Phoenix this coming season!  Then it was the turn of Jake Nurse, rising to the Phoenix from the Trafford Metros in the ENL, who was also warmly received with the revelation that when it comes to fighting, Jake just doesn't know how to say 'no'!

With the two new signings unveiled, it was time to hear from the head coach.  Unable to attend in person, Tony Hand spoke to the supporters via Neil Morris's mobile phone, and Coach Hand gave some insights into how the team is shaping up, his hopes for the coming season, and his views on fighting in the sport.  (For those not in attendance, he finds it entertaining to watch!)

The supporters were also treated to an update on the work of the Phoenix Foundation from Pete Hagan, who introduced another new Phoenix signing in the form of Karl Nicholson, who will be heading up the new Phoenix Sledge Hockey team.

The evening concluded with the drawing of the shirt raffle, with the prize of a James Archer going to Chris Mack, who was presented with it by Catherine Rowe of the Phoenix Foundation.

Up next will be the Phoenix Shirt Launch event, which will once again be at the Cresta Court Hotel, on July 29th.  But before then, Tony and Neil have a few more signings to reveal... starting this Thursday on Phoenix TV!
