Phoenix players give blood to help NBS

Wednesday, 19th December 2007

Monday saw members of the Phoenix squad visit the National Blood Service city-centre donor clinic to give a pint of their blood and help to promote the service.

Pamela and Simon Mangos, Sean Starke, Carl Graham and Nick Whyatt accompanied Captain Scott Basiuk together with GM Andy Costigan.

Pamela, Simon, Sean and Andy have all previously given blood, while for Scott, Carl and Nick it was their first time.

Simon Mangos said, “Pam and I first gave blood back in High School. It’s a good thing to do as there is a constant demand for it. Giving blood is something you do lying down as well, so there’s no great stress to it.”

Carl Graham added, “It’s not something I’ve ever thought about doing previously. The nurses were very friendly, they put me at ease and kept telling me what was going on all the way through.”
