Phoenix cure for Sebbys' seven year itch

Tuesday, 22nd July 2003

Vastly experienced defenceman Jeff Sebastian has cured a seven-year itch signing for the Manchester Phoenix, seven years after he first iced in the city with the Storm.

Phoenix Head Coach Rick Brebant is understandably happy announcing the signing as having played with the 32-year old native of Saskatchewan, he knows exactly the qualities that Sebastian possesses. “First of all, Sebby is a great team player,” he noted. “Secondly, he’s an excellent skater; he’s tremendously mobile and has a very good shot. He’d come from two years in Germany when I played with him in Sheffield and the DEL certainly honed his game. To say I’m pleased he’s coming here is a huge understatement of how I feel. I know the fans will see great things from him this season – I’m excited and he is too.”

A 6th round draft selection of the Winnipeg Jets in 1991, Jeff Sebastian signed for the Manchester Storm in the days of John Lawless before moving to Nottingham and eventually Sheffield via two seasons in Germany with the Revier Lions. Last season he returned to Germany to ice for Straubing where he tallied 16 goals and 19 assists in 58 league and playoff games and taking 87 penalty minutes.

Standing 6ft 2ins, right-shooting Jeff Sebastian will add experience, size and strength to an already impressive looking defence that includes two other six-footers in Dwight Parrish and Eric Lind.

Speaking from his home in Regina, the latest Phoenix signing said, “It’s a while since I first came to Manchester, but I always enjoy playing there so signing for the Phoenix was not a hard decision. Rick and I are good friends and having played together I know what he will want from the team as a group and me as an individual. He’s a winner, a very knowledgeable and passionate hockey person and I’m pleased and excited to be a part of what he’s building in Manchester.”
