Pre-season games announced

Friday, 22nd August 2003

With just three weeks to go before the Manchester Phoenix open their Elite League campaign, the club are delighted to confirm two pre-season Challenge fixtures.

Phoenix will play against two English Premier League 'All Star' teams who will boost their squads with the inclusion of 'guest' appearances of players from Basingstoke. Former Manchester Storm fan favourite Nick Poole, Director of Hockey at Milton Keynes, is keen to test his new squad which includes Gary Clarke who netted 84 goals last season and the BNL's top defenseman Dwayne Newman, plus James Pease and Kurt Irvine who were part of Coventry's winning team last year. Rick Brebant believes this will be a very interesting challenge for his Phoenix roster, the two games promise to be competitive and exciting.

Brebant noted, "This is an ideal opportunity for the fans to see the new squad in action and an ideal opportunity for me to gauge the progress of our local players who have been working out all summer."

He added, "The import players will appreciate the games too as they acclimatise to the systems we will be working on and knowing Nick, his EPL Allstar Team with their 'guest' players will give us a good test. Nick was such a popular player in Manchester, I am delighted he has accepted our offer of these games and I'm sure the fans will enjoy seeing him again."

The games are confirmed for Wednesday September 3rd and Wednesday 10th with both being staged at the Deeside Leisure Centre. Tickets for each game are priced as follows:

£9.00 for adults (FOMIH member)
£6.00 for concessions (FOMIH member)
